As the debate about the county revenue division formula continues to gain momentum and cause controversy, a lot of division and bad blood among senators is continuing to brew as well. Senators supporting the proposed formula are continuing to clash bitterly with those against it.
Yesternight, Kipchumba Murkomen, the former Senate majority leader and other colleagues camped outsiside Senator Langat’s residence at Nyayo Estate in Embakasi to prevent his arrest by the police. Posting on his twitter account, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator said him and his colleagues said Sen. Langat was being targetted so that he doesn’t participate in the voting about the revenue sharing formula at the Senate today.
Today at the Senate, Kipchumba has been fuming about what happened and was bitter about how the speaker was running the business at the senate. He spoke with a lot of vigor and emotions at the top of his voice in a bid to try and make the speaker act or control the business at the Senate in a way that would favour his ideologies.
Things however escalated to unexpected heights when the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator refused to stop speaking when a point of order was raised by the speaker. Murkomen defied the order and continued venting vehemently ignoring the speaker.
He was consequently forcefully taken outside the senate by the sergeant at arms as it is the normal procedure if a member is deemed out of order in the house. What shocked many is however when the police waiting outside the senate pounced on the former majority leader and apprehended him.
A member is usually not arrested when he is taken outside by the sergeant at arms. The move to arrest Murkomen has been seen as one meant to silence him as he has been very vocal about the proposed revenue sharing formula.
